Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s get to know each other! At West Nashville Dental, Dr. Orr and our team are here to answer all of your questions to ensure you feel reassured before your next appointment with your dentist in Nashville, TN. Have another question? Feel free to contact us and ask away – we’re always here to help!

How often should I have a dental cleaning and exam?

Most patients need to be seen every 6 months to maintain the health of your gums. Depending on the state of your gums, additional cleanings may be necessary.

Can my oral health affect my overall health?

The mouth is the entry point to the body and uncontrolled oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream.  Gum disease has been linked to a number of systemic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s.

What can I expect at my first visit?

We will evaluate the health of your gums and your teeth with xrays, visual examinations, and an oral cancer screening. This exam will set the framework for your oral health.

Is dental treatment painful?

No.  Thanks to advances in dental procedures and profound dental anesthetic, dental treatment can be considered painless. We ensure our patients are comfortable throughout the entirety of the procedure.

Why must I have x-rays?

Xrays provide valuable diagnostic information that could go undetected on just a visual exam. They also reveal pathology that could potentially cause a larger problem if not addressed in a timely manner.

Do I need to visit the dentist even though my teeth don't hurt?

Absolutely. Not only do frequent hygiene visits maintain healthy gums, but we are able to catch a problem before it becomes more costly and more painful.

Do you treat children?

Yes, we welcome the entire family!

Do you offer payment options or membership plans?

Yes, we have an in-office plan that covers a variety of preventive treatments and discounts dental procedures.
